Cheam Driving School offers beginner driving lessons focused on building confidence, developing practical driving skills and helping learners progress at a comfortable pace. Contact our team to discuss the lesson options available in your area.
How many driving lessons will I need before I'm ready for my test?
There is no fixed number of lessons required before taking your practical driving test. The amount of training you need depends on your previous experience, confidence, learning pace and ability to drive safely. Your instructor can assess your progress, identify areas for improvement and help you prepare for the skills assessed during your practical test.
What should I expect during my first driving lesson?
Your first driving lesson will usually begin with an introduction to the car and its basic controls, including mirrors, steering, pedals and important safety checks. Your instructor may then guide you through moving off and stopping safely in a suitable location, depending on your confidence and readiness. You won't be expected to know everything immediately, and lessons will progress according to your ability. Remember to bring your valid provisional driving licence.
Can beginners choose between manual and automatic driving lessons?
Yes. Cheam Driving School offers both manual and automatic driving lessons for beginners. Manual lessons involve learning clutch control and changing gears, while automatic lessons allow you to focus on road awareness and vehicle control without manually changing gears. Passing a manual driving test generally allows you to drive both manual and automatic cars, whereas passing in an automatic vehicle restricts you to automatic vehicles.
How can I prepare for my practical driving test as a beginner?
Preparing for your driving test involves developing safe vehicle control, observation, hazard awareness and independent driving skills. During your lessons, you'll practise situations such as junctions, roundabouts, changing speed limits, manoeuvres and different traffic conditions. Your instructor can use feedback and mock test-style practice to help identify areas that need further attention before your test.
